Linde & Schumann

Music by Bo Linde and Robert Schumann.

In his second piano trio, Robert Schumann highlights his easy-going side. It is “kinder and more direct” than the first, or so Schumann thought, in any case. As always with Schumann, this music is charged with expressive melodies and whimsically woven instrumental sections.

Bo Linde’s Sonata a Tre is also full of whimsy. Linde was active in a time when the Swedish music scene was characterised by antagonism between advocates for modernism and traditionalists, which he counted himself among. His Violin Concerto, which had its world premiere performance in 1958, was a huge success and is considered a prominent piece in modern Swedish music. As we can hear in his Sonata a Tre, his music is characterised by melodic lightness, lyrical elegance and musicianship. In 2020, it will be 50 years since the death of Bo Linde at just 37 years old.

This concert features a piano trio from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra consisting of violinist and 2nd concertmaster Patrik Swedrup, cellist Daniel Holst and orchestra pianist Stefan Lindgren.
