Classical music – not only for “adults”. Music moves everyone, of all ages, and we know that people were making music at least 60,000 years ago. Music unites us and can evoke powerful emotions, bringing personal memories to life. “You go inside of yourself,” says one listener. In an auditorium, this is a shared experience. History shows that the power of music can constitute a political threat and be used as a political tool.
In this episode, we hear music by Gustav Mahler, Carl Nielsen, Tomaso Albinoni/Remo Giazotto, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dmitri Shostakovich and Allan Pettersson.
Mankind and Music is a series about western classical music with various themes. Why does music exist? What happens to us when we listen to music, and how are we affected by playing an instrument and making music with other people?
