Maurice Ravel, alongside Claude Debussy, is one of France’s most important composers. Bolero repeats a simple melody with increasingly refined instrumentation, as the strength grows and ultimately reaches a climax.
The continuously varied instrument combinations make each fresh listen to Bolero a new and surprising musical experience. Bolero was composed as music for ballet and was a hit at its 1928 premiere in Paris.
