That was when Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, French accordionist Richard Galliano and Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren first came together for a series of concerts that resulted in the first Mare Nostrum album.
Three different musical backgrounds and three individual styles are fused here into a shared mare nostrum – “our sea.” “We share the same philosophy and meet in mutual understanding,” Jan Lundgren emphasises. “This collaboration has strengthened my belief that what we call jazz can encompass so very much.”
The trio has now reached Mare Nostrum IV. And once again, we can delight in and be fascinated by how these three musicians combine the freedom of jazz with their individual influences – spanning folk music, classical and popular music.

This is music full of beauty, magic and joie de vivre.
But beyond the spotlight, another reality existed: an America marked by political and social tension, racism and economic injustice. New stars rose on the silver screen, but happy endings were far from guaranteed in real life. This concert is a tribute to the power of music, told through timeless melodies.
With a stunning voice and a rare emotional intensity, Isabella Lundgren has the ability to mesmerise her audience. She has released a series of critically acclaimed albums and has performed at Konserthuset on numerous occasions – including Over the Rainbow – Judy Garland at 100, with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, available to stream on Konserthuset Play. This time, beloved songs from classic films such as The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music are reimagined – all under the direction of the versatile Calle Rasmusson.
Bohuslän Big Band is a world-class big band that has performed with top international artists such as Vince Mendoza, Danilo Pérez, Maria Schneider and Nils Landgren, as well as beloved Swedish performers like Sarah Dawn Finer, Björn Skifs and Tommy Körberg. Since 2004, the ensemble has been part of Vara Concert Hall and carries an artistic commission from the Västra Götaland Region.

Together, they present personal and innovative interpretations of Weather Report’s iconic music and groundbreaking songs.
Vocalist Kurt Elling is renowned for his unmatched blend of timeless swing and poetically sensitive lyrics. The Guardian has described him as “a Frank Sinatra with superpowers” and “one of the greatest jazz vocalists of all time.” Elling has recorded and toured with many of the major names in jazz, as well as with several of the world’s leading big bands and orchestras.
Now he joins forces with jazz fusion legends Yellowjackets for this tribute concert to Weather Report. Over more than 40 years, Yellowjackets have released 26 albums, earned 16 Grammy nominations – and won two – and toured extensively across the globe. Yellowjackets last appeared at Konserthuset Stockholm in spring 2011.

DownBeat magazine has praised his “lightning-fast touch and warm harmonic vocabulary.” Others have called him the greatest jazz piano talent to emerge in decades – with a virtuosity that has led some to name him the foremost heir to Oscar Peterson.
For Emmet Cohen, music is about communication – making it personal, yet always grounded in a deep understanding of jazz’s predecessors and evolving traditions. He has released a long string of solo albums, the most recent being The Vibe Provider (2024). He also leads on numerous other recordings, including four volumes of the Masters Legacy Series, featuring collaborations with legends such as George Coleman, Benny Golson and Ron Carter.
Emmet Cohen made his Konserthuset Stockholm debut in 2023 with a critically acclaimed concert also recorded for Konserthuset Play. Now, we once again have the chance to experience this exceptional jazz artist live with his trio.
