She was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize in 2023 for her portrayal of the title role in Bellini’s Norma at Folkoperan, with the jury stating: “In the service of artistic expression, she tests all boundaries with beautiful sensitivity and complete vocal mastery.” Equally praised was her performance as Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello at the Gothenburg Opera last season.
She appears here alongside rising baritone David Risberg, who made his debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2021 and has since performed several acclaimed roles – including appearances at Malmö Opera and the Vadstena Academy, where he took part in the world premiere of Andefabriken (The Spirit Factory) by Daniel Nelson.
Together, Julia Sporsén and David Risberg perform songs by Rachmaninov, Debussy, Gerald Finzi, Frank Bridge, William Bolcom, Carl Nielsen and Emil Sjögren. They are joined by the versatile pianist Magnus Svensson, artistic director of the song recital series for several seasons. In addition to concert appearances across the Nordic region and Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the USA. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, focusing on the re-publication of older Swedish music.

In this concert, we hear British tenor Robin Tritschler, admired for his radiant, clear voice and his ability to illuminate the meaning of the texts he performs.
For this evening of lieder, he has selected songs all set to texts by the German poet Heinrich Heine – undoubtedly the most frequently set poet in the history of art song. Heine was a controversial figure who went into exile in France in the early 1830s, but his emotionally rich texts – often laced with humour and irony – have exerted an irresistible appeal on countless composers.
Robin Tritschler performs songs by some of the greatest names in the genre, all of whom were inspired by Heine’s words: Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann, Edvard Grieg and many more. The evening culminates in Schumann’s masterpiece Dichterliebe – also, of course, with text by Heine.
Magnus Svensson has served as artistic director of the song recital series for several seasons. In addition to concert work across the Nordic region and Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the USA. Since 2012, he has worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with the re-publication of older Swedish music.

At this concert, we meet two rising Swedish stars poised to make their mark both nationally and internationally: soprano Matilda Sterby and mezzo-soprano Rebecka Wallroth (younger sister of soprano Johanna Wallroth).
In recent seasons, Matilda Sterby has appeared in roles at Malmö Opera and the Gothenburg Opera, and made her debut at the Volksoper in Vienna as Magda in Puccini’s La rondine. She has also sung Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the Countess in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Hanover State Opera.
With a repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary music – including opera, Lied and oratorio – mezzo-soprano Rebecka Wallroth is gaining increasing international recognition. She has appeared at the Staatsoper Berlin as Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen and Carlotta in Richard Strauss’s Die schweigsame Frau. She was also praised for her debut with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Lili Boulanger’s Faust et Hélène.
Together with pianist Magnus Svensson, Matilda Sterby and Rebecka Wallroth now present songs by Rebecca Clarke, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Johannes Brahms, Ingeborg von Bronsart and Antonín Dvořák. Magnus Svensson has served as artistic director of the Lied concert series for several seasons. In addition to his concert engagements throughout the Nordic region and the rest of Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the United States.

Joining her on stage is South Korean tenor Yohan Kim, who has shone in roles such as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata, and Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. He is also in high demand as a concert soloist and has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras in works including Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

Her major breakthrough came in 2003, when she stepped in at short notice to replace Cecilia Bartoli at a concert in Zurich. In addition to a busy schedule of productions and concerts around the world, she has recorded some forty albums. She has been honoured with the Litteris et Artibus medal (2017) and the Opera magazine award (2019), and was appointed Court Singer in 2021.
In this concert, Ann Hallenberg is joined by the versatile pianist Magnus Svensson in a programme of songs by Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Ottorino Respighi, Hildebrand Pizzetti, Ingeborg von Bronsart and Ture Rangström.
Magnus Svensson has served as artistic director of the Lied concert series for several seasons. Alongside his concert career in the Nordic countries and across Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the United States. Since 2012, he has also worked with the Royal Swedish Academy of Music on the reissue of older Swedish music.
