Andrej Power

Concertmaster and member of the orchestra since 2014.

Andrej Power has been serving as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal concertmaster since 2014, the youngest player to be awarded that position in the orchestra’s long history. Alongside his position in Stockholm, and his new role as leader of the London Symphony Orchestra, he is frequently invited to guest lead orchestras including the Swedish Radio Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

He has appeared as soloist in Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä, and in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo. Over the years, he has also performed as soloist with most of the major Swedish orchestras, often in concerts broadcast on radio or television, and he has appeared as soloist in the United States, China and across Europe.

Inspired by his grandfather Naoum Power, he began playing the violin at the age of 3. He subsequently studied with Prof. Olga Parchomenko from the age of 12, then at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Prof. Henryk Kowalski and at the Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland with Prof. Zakhar Bron.

Chamber music being a big part of his musical life he regularly performs in different groups and also has his own quartet.

Andrej Power plays the 1708 ”Regent” by Antonio Stradivari on generous loan from Tarisio, New York.
